Mexican President Andres Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), elected in 2018, promised to tackle head-on three big challenges: political corruption, public insecurity, and widespread poverty. After almost a year in office, how has he fared? In this talk, Mexican researcher and analyst Nicolás Pineda will discuss the achievements and critiques of AMLO's first year. Nicolás Pineda studied Public Administration and Political Science at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and received a Ph.D in Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Austin in 1999. He is professor and researcher in Public Policy, Water Management, and Methodology of Social Sciences at El Colegio de Sonora, and author of several books and numerous book chapters and articles in English and Spanish. He has been a columnist at El Imparcial of Hermosillo since 1990.
