In 2016 the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) insurgent group signed a peace agreement ending 52 years of armed conflict. As a result of the agreement, more than 10,000 former combatants of the FARC disarmed and began a reintegration process with many successes, challenges, and obstacles. This roundtable is an opportunity to learn about reintegration in Colombia from the perspective of two former combatants of FARC. The invited speakers will talk about early implementation of the peace agreement and where they are today. Since 2016, FARC members have initiated economic projects, including cooperatives and regional federations, and engaged in political activities and social organizations together with local communities. Their commitment to peace is strong, but they face significant challenges including security threats, difficulties finding support, and precarious conditions.
