Feminist and Queer Latin American Interventions
Dr. Pascha Bueno-Hansen
Thursday, October 20, 2016
2:00 – 3:30 p.m.
GWS 100 (925 N. Tyndall Ave.)
Dr. Bueno-Hansen will present a queer decolonial analysis of transitional justice, with a focus on Peru, Brazil and Colombia. Violence against gender and sexual minorities during armed conflict and/or authoritarian rule has largely remained undocumented, as in the case of the Peruvian Truth and Reconciliation Commission (2001-2003). Jumping forward, the recent Brazilian National Truth Commission (2012-2014) addressed violence against LGBT populations. The anticipated Colombia truth commission is positioned to comprehensively address this issue. Drawing from Latin American gender and sexuality studies, Latin American feminist decolonial theory and critical approaches to transitional justice, this project will elaborate an queer decolonial analytical framework through an examination of these three cases.
