Social Activism on the U.S.-Mexico border: Citizens, Rebels, Change Agents, and Reformer

The humanitarian crisis on the United States-Mexico border has led many people and organizations to become social activists in order to help address the immediate problems that refugees and asylum seekers are facing. According to Bill Moyer, there are four different roles that activists and social movements need to play in order to create social change: the citizen, rebel, change agent and reformer. Using Moyer’s four typologies I will highlight how people and organizations on the U.S. Mexico border are working for change, individually and organizationally and demonstrate their successes and challenges amidst this global phenomena and its impact on the local communities on the border.
