CLAS x CEAS Photo Contest

Did you travel to Latin America or East Asia? 

If so, the Center for East Asian Studies (CEAS) and the Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) are looking for your best shots. Enter to win a cash prize and help promote student travel! Whether you are a student who traveled on a study abroad program, on your own, or returned home to visit your family, you are welcome to submit. All UArizona students are eligible to enter!

University of Arizona students are invited to submit up to three original photos taken in Latin America and/or East Asia. Photographs that focus on East Asian or Latin American culture, landscapes, or cityscapes are highly encouraged. In particular, there is a special category of submissions for those photographs that demonstrate evidence of Latin American influence in East Asia or East Asian influence in Latin America.

These photos must have been taken by the person submitting the photo during the 2022-2023 academic year, this includes the summer of 2023. The deadline for submission is September 15th.

Photos must have been taken in one of the following regions:

• Latin America
  Any Spanish or Portuguese speaking country in Central or South America, including Mexico and the Caribbean.
• East Asia
  All Chinese, Korean and Japanese speaking countries and regions, including Mongolia, Tibet, and Vietnam.

Prizes and Categories

The CLAS x CEAS category is for photographs showing Latin American culture and/or languages in East Asia, or East Asian culture and/or languages in Latin America. Upon submission of each photo you will be prompted to choose a category. Multiple submissions may be made to a category with a total of three (3) submissions per student.

Use of Your Photos

All images collected, whether prize winning or not, may be used on University of Arizona websites, social media, and print materials for promotional purposes. In particular, these images may be used to promote study abroad programs and foreign language study. Lastly, your images may be displayed publicly on campus with attribution.

Conditions for Entry

To submit your photos you must agree to the following conditions:

• I am currently enrolled at the University of Arizona.
• All submissions are original works taken by myself.
• I received consent for the image to be taken or no consent was necessary.
• I have considered how my photograph would represent the University of Arizona, the people and culture captured by the image, and myself.
• I understand that my photograph may be disqualified due to direct images of minors, graphic content, or hate speech.
• I give permission to the University of Arizona to display and reproduce the submitted images (in whole or in part) without further notification.
