Prof. Johanna Lundy, Dr. José Luis Puerta, and Dr. Luis Coronado Guel will present about their collaborative work with the Borderlands Ensemble, a classical chamber group formed in 2017 to reach across social boundaries and bring communities together through music. The group aims to reflect the culture of the borderlands in each performance, featuring music by Mexican, American, and Indigenous composers. The group is committed to working for equity in classical music and presenting concerts that are relevant and engaging to all people.

The ensemble has explored non-traditional concert formats and venues, working with a variety of collaborative partners. Of particular note are their popular “Tertulia” events, themed around Mexican cultural topics, created in collaboration with SBS Director of Mexico Initiatives Dr. Luis Coronado Guel. Their refined and impactful performances speak to the group’s commitment to build cultural bridges through chamber music, while disrupting barriers imposed by classical music traditions.
