The concept of race (raza), deeply connected to notions of religion and ethnicity, spread from Medieval Spain to neighboring North Africa and Spanish colonies in Latin America. This has affected life in those areas for the last 500+ years. Learn about how race, religion, and ethnicity interacted in Medieval Iberia from David Graizbord, acting Head of The Arizona Center for Judaic Studies; in Latin America from University of Arizona History professor Jadwiga Pieper-Mooney; and in North Africa from UCLA Anthropology Professor Aomar Boum.
