Join us in welcoming our new Director of Outreach, Dr. Katrin Dillon. She holds and MA in Latin American Studies and a Ph.D. in Education (Language, Literacy and Sociocultural Studies) from the University of New Mexico (UNM).  Dr. Dillon comes with substantial experience as a K-12 educator in the public school system in New Mexico, where two-thirds of the student population identifies as Hispanic or Latino, and in Ohio, where she maintained a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in her curriculum.
Prior to that, Dr. Dillon worked with the UNM Latin American and Iberian Institute (LAII) for ten years, first as a project assistant and then as the education consultant on their k-12 Outreach program.  She has experience working with Title VI National Resource Centers throughout the country and has worked with pre-service and in-service educators focusing on how to best meet the needs of linguistically and culturally diverse students.
Dr. Dillon is committed to working with educators and students, in her own words, “Regardless of the educational setting, my teaching philosophy is centered in an ethic of critical love, emphasizing a humanizing and transformative approach to education based upon a commitment to social justice.”
We are very excited to have Dr. Dillon as part of the CLAS team and look forward to many collaborations on campus and with schools and community colleges in Tucson and the Southwest.
